(River tracing after rain is strongly unrecommended. The scale does not promise the actual situation and is merely for reference due to high volatility of rivers. River tracers are on their own responsibility and the reviewer is not liable to any mishaps or accidents.)
Why Making this Scale?
River tracing is one of the most fun and a unique sport in Taiwan, yet very few are aware of its existence and it comes with a reason. The entry to river tracing is a huge challenge to beginners for the volatile nature of rivers in Taiwan. People without much experience can use the scale as one of their references to plan their river traces.

The scale is based on Google's 5-star standard--easy to read.
🔥Level of Difficulty 🔥
Level of Difficulty: 7 dry days after heavy rain at 70mm
A river still has quite a decent amount of water after seven dry days after heavy rain! The weather is rainy in Taiwan almost all year round and everywhere.
This scale indicates the level of difficulty you might experience with a decent amount of water in a river. It includes a mixture of challenges like climbing, slippery terrain, currents, swiftwater, strenuousness, etc.
River traces with the difficulty at 4 or 5 require the river tracers not only to be familiar with the equipment they use but also very experienced. Without proper gear, river tracers are at high risk. No one will ever go by you in a valley by any chance, and usually there is no reception in a valley, unlike hiking on a trail where, more or less, there are some people. Mistakes or accidents in these river traces can easily end up badly.

💦High Water Flow💦
Level of Difficulty at High Water Flow: Level of difficulty after 2 dry days after heavy rain at 70 mm
Sensibility: Level of difficulty after 2 dry days after medium rain at 50mm
Water in a river often does not drain too much after only 2 dry days after medium rain. Some rivers drain fast while some drain very slowly. This scale is to suggest the level of difficulty when a river is at high water flow, or it implies some rivers drain very fast with the rating of 💦or💦💦.
High water flow always suggests more difficulty. New obstacles might appear like suckholes, hydraulics, stronger currents even torrents, higher chance of falling rocks, etc. 💦 OK for Beginners. Life jackets are suggested.

🌀Typhoons and Other Hazards🌀
Typhoons come around summer and fall. The rainfall they bring is immeasurable. Usually, water flow remains high for a month or at least, not to mention when there are typhoons after typhoons. All scales for difficulty no longer apply after a typhoon. Other hazards also make the scale inapplicable such as an afternoon downpour, a cloud system, a weather depression, medium or heavy plum rain, the outer system of a typhoon (even when it is very far away in Philippines and not passing Taiwan).
